KTM Lycan hire bikeWhen the going gets tough the tough get going, this is exactly why we have chosen the KTM Lycan as our full suspension rental mountain bike. Riding this machine down hills is a dream and what makes it even better is the ability to lock out the suspension and pedal uphill like a hardtail. We have two sizes in stock, medium (48cm) and large (53cm). The beauty of the full suspension bike is that it allows you to get away with a lot more in terms of technical riding that the hardtail would. After years of riding a hardtail, Tarja has now crossed over to use the full suspension bike and it's difficult to see her changing back, she loves it!

The Lycan comes with top notch components from the world's leading manufactures like Rockshox, Shimano and Ritchey, so there is no messing around. This is a great bike that really makes life easy for the rider. The cost to rent this bike is €30 per day.

The DetailThe Rockshox suspension fork on KTM's Lycan hire bike

The Suspension

The KTM Lycan hire bike comes equipped at the front end with a Rockshox Recon fork. This provides 5" (120mm) of super smooth travel, more than enough for any of the obstacles which are encountered on the trails around Lake Garda. The fork has external rebound adjustment and the sag can be adjusted to suit the rider's individual weight via air pressure. The rear shock is from Manitou, a Radium RL offering again, 5" (120mm) of travel. The result of this combination is a perfectly balanced ride giving great confidence on the bike. Both suspension units have a lock out so at the flick of a switch the bike transforms and is well able to take on any climb you can throw at it!

The DrivechainKTM Lycan hire bike drivechain

The drivechain is looked after by Shimano's new shadow range. The XT rear mech is tucked away under the rear axle so as to reduce the likelihood of it hitting the ground and breaking during a crash. The 27 speed shifting action is just seamless. The cranks are Shimano Deore hollow tech, which look very similar to the traditional XT cranks, which have been the work horse of shimano's groupsets.

The ControlsShimano and Rockshox components on your hire bike

KTM have really hit the nail on the head here with the controls. Shimano Deore's new burly symmetric levers are matched up with the sleek dual release shifters for perfect shifting and braking. The symmetric levers mean that the brakes can easily be reversed to suit what the rider is used to, (ie front brake on the left of right) which makes life very easy for us! And to top it off there is a remote lock out control positioned on the handle bar for easy access. This means no more faffing around trying to find the little dial when you're about to fly into the descent!
