3 Rock Tri Duathlon: 21st September '09Well as if one major event wasn't tough enough for Tarja, she entered the Duathlon in Ashford on Sunday. It was a cracking day and once again there was a great feild of competitors ready to challenge themselves. The format was a 5km run, 20km bike and finally a 5 km run. Now Tarja has been doing a fair bit running but she didn't expect to finish the event in a fabulous second place! Race results can be found here>>> Podiums for Tarja and Niall in Marathon Madness: 19th September '09
Just back from "Da Colley Thriller", a mountain bike marathon which was held by Cuchulainn Cycling Club in Carlingford, Co Down. Tarja won the Ladies short course and Niall was second in the Elite men's race. The weather was looking great on the drive up this morning but typically as soon as we signed on and got into our gear, it started to lash! Visibility was poor the whole day but that didn't mean the racing was dull. Because the weather has been so dry, the ground was rolling really well and the trails were in great condition. Over 140 riders turned out for the event and it's fair to say everyone had a great time, even those out for a massive 6 hours! Well done to the McCabe brothers for organising another great event.
Niall wins the Epic Blast: 14th September '09 Its official, Ireland's most fun mountain bike event is the Epic Blast. Over 260 mountain bikers from all over Ireland took part in the infamous mass descender race. For those unfamiliar with the format, the day began with heaths where groups of 10 riders are selected at random. These act as seeding runs for the "finals". For example, if you place 5th in your heath, you will be in the same final as all the other 5th place riders. After the hotly contested finals there comes the main event! All of the bike riders make their way back to the top of the mountain and line out across the hill to await the starter's orders. All the riders are set loose on his word or as it happened this year- as soon as the first person jumps the gun! The race course itself is a mix of downhill and uphill. There a lots of jumps and drops to look out for on the way too! After a very tough Blast, Niall took the win, for his third time! But the main thing is having fun, that's the key to a good Blast.
Training Days in Ireland: 8th September '09Back home in Ireland to the green green hills. We have a training day coming up this weekend. Read more about it here>>> Activity Day: 7th September '09
We had a bit of a multi sport day today with rock climbing in the morning, mountain biking in the afternoon and swimming in the evening! The biking was lift assisted, so the group got to ride a 1300 meter descent with no up hill, we do spoil our guests! And would you believe today is a travel day, so we are off to the airport now for a 21.30 flight drop.
2 hour descent: 6th September '09 Epic descent on Mt Stivo. After a short road climb out of Val di Gresta we turn around to Mt Stivo and began to ride to Passo due Sasso, taking in the Goat descent on the way before making our final climb to Malga Campo at 1400mtrs above sea level! After a photo stop we loaded up and hit Slabness which drops us out at Arco- two hours later! We reckon its the best descent in Garda, technical and tricky in places but just so much fun! The rock slabs that make the trail famous were bone dry and so grippy. Happy trails.
The Snake: 5th September '09Well what a days biking. We started and finished at the hotel door in Ronzo Chienis. We rode some of the classic "Alpine" style trails which are hidden around the hills above Lake Garda. The trails were nice 'n dusty and full of dry leaves!! Off rock climbing now. Holiday time: 4th September '09
Just arrived at sunny Lake Garda for a weekend of mountain bike action. Everyone is realy happy to be here and can't wait to get moving tomorrow.

Fit for Life: 30th August '09Just back from the Fit for Life 7km run in Djouce woods, Co Wicklow. It was a small event organised by the Greystones Running Club. Tarja won the senior Womens and Niall came 3rd in the Senior mens- So we're not just about the bike! It was a fun day out.
Mountain Bike Training Day: 29th August '09Great session today with lots of improvement from all the riders. All the important skills were mastered, from front wheel and rear wheel lifts to cornering and gearing. Well done everyone! There was also a request for some guiding in Wicklow area so if you interested just drop us an email. The guiding will be a 2 hour spin, non technical trails, a good work out with great views! Weather Report for August Mountain Bike Training Day: 28th August '09Looks like we're in for a nice day for the mountain bike training day tomorrow. Some showers as always but things are looking good! More info on www.met.ie
K Capital Mountain Bike Marathon: 23rd August '09The second round of the K Capital Mountain Bike Marathon was held at Carrick Mountain in County Wicklow today. Despite the heavy, heavy rain, everyone had great fun! It was the first time this particular venue had been used for such and event. The mountain bike course was a single loop of fireroad and singletrack sections. Tarja finished second in the Ladies and Niall was 5th in the Mens. Both KTM mountain bikes behaved perfectly in the testing muddy conditions, descending and climbing nicely. And last but not least, we couldn't have gone without our Columbia Sportswear. A good rain breathable jacket was essential.
Nationwide Training Days: 20th August '09The All Mountain Experience mountain biking training days are now running nationwide across Ireland. So if you and your buddies are thinking of getting involved in mountain biking, or if you are seeking to build on your existing skills, drop us a mail and we'll come to you!

UCI World Cycling Centre: 17th August '09 While on a recent road trip across Switzerland we dropped by the World Cycling Centre. Tarja had spend some year's racing and training at the centre of excellence and had great fun going back for a look. They have a massive indoor track, bmx course and lots of other cool stuff. Pics coming soon.
Up and coming mountain bike training days: 15th August '09Just a reminder about the up and coming mountain bike training day in Ireland on the 29th of August. The session will kick off at 10 am sharp, cost €50 euro and is a best palce to start if you are just getting into mountain biking. The session will be based in Dublin. New mountain bike trails on Mt Velo: 13th August '09We were out for a spin around Mt Velo this afternoon and came across some nice singletrack trails which looked to be newly made. We'll be making sure everyone gets their chance to ride the next section. It just goes to show you just how vast the terrain is at Lake Garda.
Mountain biking above Limone at Lake Garda: 11th August '09Today's bike tour was to Passa Nota on the western side of Lago di Garda. Some of the group rode the whole way up from Riva del Garda on the old Via Panale road to Lago di Ledro and other availed of our bike shuttle which took the sting out of the climb. The trails on the way are nice and silty with some rock and root sections. Once we reached Passa Notta we stopped for some cold drinks and took in the great view over Lake Garda. All was going well to this point but on the way down we had 7 punctures!!! It was just one of those days... We were all able to laugh about it at the end of the ride and all our hard work made the post ride ice-cream taste even nicer : )
Mountain biking north of Lake Garda: 10th August '09What a brilliant days mountain biking, 4 hours of great trails and sunshine. We started out from Torbole on the bike path to Arco the headed up Mt Velo and enjoyed the great views over Lake Garda. After the climb up we descended down a mix of rocky double track, smooth single track as well as some nice wooded section- which were a great break from the hot sun! Happy days.
Climbing and Biking: 8th August '09We were up bright and early to make the most of the day's sun and had planned to go mountain biking for a few hours, then make our way to a rock climbing spot at the bottom of the hill. But it looks like it's rained over night and we'll have to leave the climbing for another day... oh well. It hasn't rained for a good while now so i guess the farmers will be happy!
Bike ride to Refuge Pernici: 7th August '09Refuge Pernici is at 1600 meters above Riva del Garda on the west side of Lake Garda. There are a number of access points to the refuge and we decided to go for the hard option, up the 402- the steepest fire road in the world (dramatisation, may not be true!) After a long climb up we spent a while taking in the great views and sunshine from the refuge. The Italian's really have it sorted when it comes to resting points in the mountain. There is a refuge at most major mountain passes, where you get a hot drink, a cold beer or even a bed for the night if you're in a bad way! It really encourages people to get out into the hills and enjoy the fresh air. After our break we took the most amazing ridge ride at 1800mtrs before dropping off the face into the Ledro Valley and Taking the via Panale road back to Riva del Garda.
Last chance mounatin bike holidays for 2009: 6th August '09The final dates for 2009 mountain bike holidays in Lake Garda will be the 4th-7th and the 25th-28th of September. Both weekend packages cater for all levels and include 2 days of the most stunning mountain bike riding, return airport transfers, 3 nights hotel accommodation with breakfast and 3 course evening meal made form locally grown organic produce. more>>>

Freeride on Mt Altisimo: 01 August '09Great weather here at Lake Garda today, temperatures touching 30 degrees at midday. We drove to a height of 1600 mtrs today for a Freeride tour. We still had to climb some 400 mtrs in height to the top of Mt Altisimo which took the guts of an hour but that made the following descent even more rewarding. The mountain on this the East side of the Lake are so diverse, one minute your in an alpine glen, the next your on Dolomite scree slopes! The 2000mtr descent, know as one of the most relentless trails in Garda took almost 2 hours to complete. Check out the trail review here>>> New mountain bike training day date announced: 31st July '09Check out the mountain bike training section for more information here>>>

Rock Climbing in the mountains above Lake Garda: 30th July '09There is a great beginners trail in a small town north of Lake Garda called Dro. Its only 15 minutes from the lake and is well worth a try. The technique is called Via Ferrata, meaning by the line or rope. This means you are clipped onto the safety rope right from the start so its perfectly safe. From the on your climbing on purpose built steps and ladders all the way!
Faces to Names: 28th July '09We've just put some faces to our client's testimonials section. Read what the real mountain bikers think here>>>
All Mountain Experience site updates: 27th July '09 As you can see there are a few new features on the site. We have added our Facebook, Myspace and Youtube channels to the site so you can find out more about us and keep up to date with us in a way that suits you.
Mountain bike Marathon: 26th July '09Just back from a mountain bike marathon which was held in a town called Ala, 25 minutes from Lake Garda. This was supposed to be a small race... entries were limited to 1500 riders! So we signed up on the day and were given numbers in the 1400's! The 47km mountain bike event started at 10.30 in the lovely morning sunshine. The course was a great mix of forest paths, fire roads, twisty single track and no brakes descents. Italian mountain bikers have now earned themselves the title of the world's craziest descenders in our books- they are lunatics on the downhills! We both made great progress up through the field passing riders all the way. The next event is another marathon that follows a disbanded railway up the Trentino valley to Austria- we can't wait!
Youtube videos added: 22nd July '09
Check out our mountain bike trail review section for some new mountain bike videos here>>>
Irish National Mountain bike Championships XC & DH: 21st July '09 Congratulations to Irelands new national mountain bike champions, Connor Mc Convey and Ben Reid! Both events were held over the weekend with the Cross Country on Saturday and the Downhill on Sunday. We are lucky enough to be able to call the guys friends of All Mountain Experience with both having spent time at Lake Garda with us last year. Well done again!
Pass Notta: 20th July '09Just in form a great day in the lovely sunshine. We rode the Passa Notta trail which is on the western side of Lake Garda. It's a great trail if you are willing to put the hard work in on the climbs. The highest point we reached was 1248 meters above sea level and given that Lake Garda is a approx 50mtrs, that's a lot of climbing for one day... But you know what that means, lots and lots of descending! It took over an hour to make it back down to the Lake, taking in the views all the while. The trail down is a real gem with a great mix of technically challenging single track and smooth flowing bermed sections. When we got down to Riva del Garda we had the traditional ice cream stop at Flora Gelateria and then hit the lake for a refreshing swim... What a perfect day. More information on the Passa Notta trail here>>>
Festa Fun: 19th July 2009Last night we went to Riva del Garda to see the annual fireworks display. Each year in July thousands of spectators flock to see the great show and this year was no different. We had some rain recently which really helped clear the air, making perfect conditions for the fireworks.
Tarja Training for Charity Bike Ride: 13th July '09
Training is going well for Tarja with just under two months to go before she takes off with her Cousin Wayne on the Continental Divide mountain bike trail which runs from Canada to Mexico. They will be biking each day for one month, covering 2000km of the mountain bike trail. Their Charity is called www.Wheels4Life.org, who provide bikes for remote communities in third world countries. You can help by donating your old bike to the organisation and any support is much appreciated. For information on how to do that contact us here>>>
Mega Avalanche Mountain Bike Race: 12th July '09
Niall raced the 'Mega Avalanche' mountain bike race last weekend in Alp D' Heuz, France. For those who don't know, the 'Mega' is a 33km downhill race and this year 2000 riders took part! This was Niall's first time racing this event and as such his grid number was 1778, so things were going to be tough to get towards the front of the field. The race is very demanding on both skill and fitness fronts with the tough technical course making it difficult to pass other riders. A crash at the top damaged Niall's KTM bike, leaving him stuck in 9th gear for most of the race. That said, Niall finished in 73rd place, a great result for a new entrant, into what is considered one of the hardest mountain bike races. As Niall is finishing his degree in Mechanical Engineering, after taking a break for a few years to race mountain bikes. This year his focus has shifted slightly from Cross Country racing to selected Enduro style events throughout Europe.
Our Mountain bike Holiday: 11th July '09
Our mountain bike holiday to the French Alps was great fun. We camped out to test the equipment for Tarja's fundraising bike ride in September and everything worked really well. It's always nice to bike ride on different trails, and what better way to get a true feel for the area then camping! We camped at altitude for a few nights with temperature dropping well below freezing, but our 'down' sleeping bags were able to keep us warm, which was a great relief to Tarja for her trip to the Canadian Rockies in September.
Mountain bike Trail Guide: 10th July '09We have just finished a quick guide to some of the trails that we like to use at Lake Garda. Typically we get to ride 5 of these trails during a week's holiday. The mountain biking at Lake Garda is diverse and there is definately something for every level. Check it out here>>>
All Mountain Experience Adventure: 6th July '09This week we are going on holidays! We have an action packed plan to take in some great mountain bike trails near Sestrier on the Italian French boarder. The holiday will also be used as a test run for Tarja before she departs to Canada for her chartiy cycle. The mountain bike trails around the French-boarder are just stunning, lots of sweet single track and epic descents. Each year we try and get back there and do some biking or at very least sample some of the best ice-cream around! After a few days we make our way to the 'Mega Avalanche' in Alp d'Heuz. We will be among the 2000 starters in this epic downhill race hoping to survive the weekend and come back to Lake Garda in one piece. We'll both be on our full suspension KTM bikes set up for the big hits and decked out in the latest free ride gear from Columbia Sportswear. We know our equipment will be up to it, so no excuses, bring it on!
Fire Works: 4th July '09There was a big fire works display in Ronzo Chienis to celebrate the start of the summer season. Pictures just don't do it justice but it was a great night and has really kick started the summer.
Local Mountain Bike Trails: 3rd July '09The local trails around Ronzo Chienis really are special, so different from the usual Lake Garda gravel. They are almost Alpine like with much more soil and deciduous trees. After a great spin around the mountain bike trails in Val di Gresta yesterday we headed up Mt Biana on the new fire road trail which climbs some 600 vertical meters above Ronzo Chienis. It was the first time we had been able to take the narrow twisting MTB trail back down and what a thrill! The trail is pretty technical all the way so the speed isn't very high but the challenge is in keeping your eyes fixed on the trail, not the views!
New Challenge for All Mountain Experience: 1st July '09This coming September Tarja, will be riding the infamous "Continental Divide" trail that runs from Canada to Mexico for the charity www.Wheels 4 life.org. She will be riding off road the whole way, pulling a bob trailer containing her sleeping bag and tent and not to forget braving it will the bears in the Rocky Mountains! If you would like to donate to Tarja's Charity contact her (

Slabness Mountain Bike Trail on Mt Velo : 29th June '09What a ride today. We left our base at Hotel Martinelli in Ronzo Chienis at 10 and headed up onto our local mountain, Monto Velo, translated literally to mean "The Bike Mountain".It looks over the northern side of Lake Garda. The first half an hour is tough climbing but after that its just the sweetest trail. There is a mixture of fire road trail, single track, and a very old cobbled road that acted as a means of access to the mountains for people before cars were around. However, the main feature of the trail is a long section of rock slab, hence the name Slabness! We took out the KTM Lycan hire bikes and really gave them a good challange. The secret is to keep up the momentum on the bike, as it really helps you stick to your line. After an hour and a half of pure descending we stopped off for ice cream in Arco. And to top it all off- the van was waiting at the bottom to bring us back up to base camp in Ronzo!
All Mountain Experience- Picture Gallery: 27th June '09 As you may have noticed there are a lot of changes going on these days! We are doing some much needed updating and trying to make it easier for you guys to navagate you way through website. As you can see all our tours are availiable under the new activities tab at the top menu. Make sure you check out our new pics here>>>
Organic Olive tour: 26th June '09The first All Mountain Experience Olive tour took place yesterday evening after a great descent on the mountain bikes from Mount Stivo. The ride started off at 10am with a climb out of the village. After the ascent, it was all down hill (decending that is!), seriously, the next two hours was pure adrenaline! The trails around this area are some of the most popular in Lake Garda. A bit of cycling history here for you; the Giro D'Italia has even climbed the area below Mt Stivo/ Mt Velo which stands proud over the North of Lake Garda at 1170 meters. The Olive tour itself was great fun and a nice way to end the mountain bike spin. We were invited in by the local farmer to see the whole process, from the field to the bottle. The oil is famously known as the only organically produced oil in the Trentino region and is supplied to some of the best restaurants in Italy. It is the most northern part of Italy that Olive trees grow. This is facilitated by the Thermal Vents that are created by the large Lake of Garda.
Information Booklet: 25th June '09
Just back from the printers is the information booklet for Ronzo Chienis. Packed with the opening times for every for all shops and services in the village. As Ronzo is a small mountain village, this is essential reading for all visitors.
Hotel Martinelli Cycling Clothing: 23rd June '09
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Hotel Martinelli, Mirko Martenilli has designed some custom cycling clothing. As you can see from the picture, Mirko is more than happy with the outcome and can you blame him! It's the best looking kit we have seen in a long time and its available for buy when you visit us in Ronzo Chienis. The price is low and is just to cover the manufacturing cost involved. Also available is a cool green cycling buff, which is the one piece of kit we all wondered how we did without before! We're looking forward to hitting the trails in it soon. Great job Mirko and here's to another 40 years!
Mt Altisimo: 21st June '09
Today we took a group up the infamous Mt Altisimo which towers above the Eastern side of Lake Garda. Mt Altisimo literally translated means the 'highest mountain'! 360 degree views can be observed at the top and on a clear day one can see Austrian and Swiss Mountains in the distance! We started out by driving to Malcesine, jumping on the Gondola to Mt Baldo and climbing the remaining 600 mts of vertical height by bike! When we arrived at the top we were warmly greeted by the staff at Refugo Altisimo who were on hand with some hot food and some beers to celebrate the achievement!
Kool KTM's: 20th June '09
This years new bike hire fleet arrived this week and have already been put to use! A quick road trip to the head quarters in Austria made for a really smooth, hassle free and on time delivery. We were so impressed by the KTM setup, its almost as if a whole town has been taken over by the mountain and motor bike manufacturer. The addition of 8 new bikes to the fleet is very welcome indeed. 6 KTM Ultra Flite hardtails and 2 KTM Lycan full suspension mountain bikes will be put to good use over the next few months. Both are equiped with Shimano XT equipment and Rock Shox suspension forks. KTM really are the best mountain bikes you can get your hands on these days and from seeing their setup and profesional operation I'm fully sure you'll think the same shall you ever be lucky enough to ride their bikes. Check back soon for a full review of the hire bikes aswell as Niall's full carbon race machine! If you have any questions about KTM or would like some advice when buying, just drop us a mail here>>>
Action Stations: 15th June '09 We had an action packed May with visitors from Ireland, the UK, Sweden and Switzerland coming to enjoy some mountain bike action with All Mountain Experiece. The first Girls Weekend was a huge success with a big group of Gals from Ireland trying mountain biking for the first time! The trails around lake garda were well and truely ablaze with all the girls improving their own skills and confidence on the bikes aswell as trying some rock climbing too. This was all topped off with fresh organic food from the Val di Gresta and some sampling of the best local wines in the Trentino region.
Summer Sun : 05 June '09 The 2009 holiday season kicks off on the first weekend in May at Lake Garda, Italy, with All Mountain Experience. The winter snow has melted and most of the high trails are ready to rock and roll! Weather reports form the area have been good so we are expecting the trails to be in great condition! See you on the hill.

Mountain bike training in Munster
As part of our nationwide mountain bike training, All Mountain experience visited the Munster region last weekend, the 29th of March. We had a great session in Ballyhoura forest on Sunday. Ballyhoura is the largest network of purpose built man made trails in Ireland! It's well worth a visit and no doubt we will be down there again in the very near future. The sessions were very well attended, with both beginner and intermediate sessions being run side by side. We started off in the car park with a basic introduction and quickly progressed to the trail. Despite the poor weather everybody had a great time and lots of new mountain bike skills were learned by all! Read more about our mountain bike training days in Ireland here>>>
Active 8 family bike day. All Mountain Experience were delighted to be part of last weekend's Active8 family bike day in Dublin's Shanganna Park. Mountain Bike Day and Columbia Sportsware Competition.
Pictured is one of the winners of the All Mountain Experience competition which took place at the Holiday World show in the RDS Dublin on the 23rd to the 25th of January. Entrants had to guess how long Niall could balance stationary on his bike for.
